![]() ![]() There are enemies to face, and cards, weapons and armour, and resources to gather. The core premise is that you are The Hero, and you traverse the land which presents itself in the form of a loop. This was to be my distraction for the day. I needed something to distract myself with, and lo and behold, Loop Hero was out! With a launch discount and everything. It’s difficult because she died a little over 12 years ago, so ya know, her birthday has kinda become a day of “ah yeah, this fuckin’ sucks doesn’t it?” I never have a specific plan of what to do on the day, and this was the first one I’d spent under lockdown. An innocuous day for most, a difficult day for me it’s my mum’s birthday. And then it was the fifth of March, the day after launch. ![]() It definitely intrigued me as a fan of rogue-likes/lites, but I didn’t pay too much attention as to when it was coming out. I wasn’t planning on getting Loop Hero initially. That familiarity resonated with me when I eventually built the farm, and understood what The Hero was experiencing: grief. Except upon your return, everything is slightly different, even if some of the land you recreate is familiar. There are resources to gather, and a camp to build upon once your first expedition is complete. It’s through the memories of The Hero that the loop, and the world in turn, comes back into focus. The game begins and you are met with the loop, inhabited with nothing but slimes littering the dirt roads. The protagonist, known only as The Hero, is faced with a world that they can hardly remember. “The world will be destroyed,” one of the opening lines reads. Something that doesn't let him continue his hunt from a distance.Loop Hero is an ostensibly bleak game from the start. Only something extremely extraordinary can force The Hunter to fight in close quarters. And his loyal hounds will help him get rid of the planets that are not worth wasting his gunpowder on. His sharp sight allows him to see anything from immeasurable distances, and to extinguish a star with only one precise shot. "The Hunter is prowling through the cosmos looking for his prey. "Star Gunpowder" - Forces the Hero to stop attacking and attack another target instead. "Hunter's Horn" - Fills the Hound's attack bar by 50% instead of every 2nd attack. "The Pack" - Gets fully healed and a 100% increase to damage after the death of an ally. The Hunter has the following abilities and specifics: Here were my stats when I took down the Hunter. The only downside of the card is that it prevents you from getting Yellow or Orange quality gear, but luckily this doesn't affect the Rogue. The Outpost cards are also extremely helpful as they'll spawn allies in adjacent fights. ![]() If you're given the option, take the "Picky" trait as it gives you higher quality gear. I also recommend using the Arsenal card to unlock the Amulet slot. Getting your evasion up will also negate the need for health ups, allowing you to keep Villages and Meadows out of your deck as they aren't really necessary here. ![]() The Rogue also greatly benefits from Evasion so get that stat as high as possible too and you won't take much damage throughout your run or against the Hunter. I recommend playing your Forest tiles as well, but I wouldn't place them next to the River unless you have a lot of excess space next to it - they just aren't as effective as Thickets. The best way to do that is to build a long River and to place your Thicket tiles next to it as it will double the attack speed increase. You're going to want to play to the Rogue's strengths here, so make sure to increase your attack speed as much as possible. We recommend using the Rogue for this fight as they are able to deal a lot of damage in a short amount of time. ![]()
